A
slip between two sport yachts was turned into an
every-weekend getaway. The space was completely decked
over and a cabana was built from the deck up. The
cabana and patios are under cover of a large boathouse.
Amenities include a wrap around bar with marble top,
outdoor kitchen with stainless steel appliances,
grill island, front patio facing the lake, dressing
room with two bathrooms including separate showers
and all the audio/video entertainment of home. And,
nearly every electronic media is available to help
you chill. |

|
In
the main seating area two overhead 37-inch LCDs provide
viewing of satellite TV and DVDs. You can watch NASCAR
and football simultaneously on side-by-side LCDs.
Multiple satellite TV sources allow independent channel
selection. One of four SAT TV receivers is distributed
to all TVs. |

|
| Flushed into the
grill island an iPod port is trimmed in matching
cedar. The ‘white’ iPod dock was
dyed ‘black’ to better match the
surroundings. An interior enclosure protects
the iPod port and wiring from the grill fixtures.
An iPod remote control rests in the dock whenever
the iPod is not in use. The overhead infrared
target functions with the iPod dock.

|
| In the lower outside
corners of the bar we installed dual vents
for two concealed Boston Acoustics 12-inch
subwoofers. The vents are trimmed in rough
cedar and stained to match the existing trim.
A stainless steel mesh allows the bass radiation
to freely vent. Behind the S.S. mesh a finer
fiberglass mesh keeps bugs out.

|

|
Within
the bar’s interior we installed two polyurethane
waterproof enclosures. Each contains a down firing
12-inch driver. The enclosures are elevated on polymer
risers. The interior framing of he bar is completely
sealed around the vent opening. Also a drain hole
was installed at the base of each cavity just in
case. |
| |
|
 |
Fillets
were installed to receive birch cover panels, which
seal off the subwoofer from the cabinet’s normal
storage. |
| |
|

|
A
20-inch LCD is mounted on a cantilever bracket, which
allows the TV to swivel and tilt for optimum viewing.
Anyone who is using the grill or kitchen won’t
miss the action. |

|
| Out on the patio
that faces the lake we installed a pair of
Boston Acoustics Voyagers. Just inside the
dressing room door we added a stereo volume
control for the patio speakers. A 26-inch LCD
is easily removed or installed over the dressing
room entrance. When not in use all cables are
recessed within the flush mounted outlets with
weather covers.

Side
by side closets conceal a majority of the electronics.
One closet also stores groceries while the other
houses the hot water heater. |
| |
|
 |
We
built a custom cabinet to hold the bulk of the electronics.
In order to fit through the door opening the cabinet
was pre-fabricated in separate left and right sections
and connected once installed in the closet. The closet
contains an audio/video receiver, three two-channel
amplifiers, an active crossover network, a DVD changer
and a volume control for the center channel speaker.
The cabinet has venting through every shelf for cooling
(fans can easily be fitted) plus built-in wire raceways. |
| |
|
 |
Next door this closet contains a satellite
TV receiver plus the main audio/video distribution
components. All key components are accessible for
subsequent service. A component video selector and
distribution amplifier are vital to high-resolution
video when multiple LCD TVs are a considerable distance
from their sources.
It’s possible for five cabana LCDs plus
the cockpit LCDs on each of the two sport yachts
to share the same DVD or satellite TV source. Seamless
sights and sounds between four areas (cabana, patio
and two cockpits) is an ideal feature for entertaining.
Four total satellite receivers also allow independent
viewing options among the TVs on the boats and
boathouse.
Both sport yachts have very sophisticated security
systems. The boathouse is protected by infrared
cameras that can be viewed 24/7 over the Internet. |
