Complete with suicide doors this 1962 Lincoln Continental convertible needed a sound system, but presented a few challenges. Factory only provided for a single speaker centered indash. The structure behind the kick panels couldn’t be modified and, the folding convertible top consumed the entire trunk.

The cast metal dash bezel was easily modified, primered and painted to receive a flipface CD player.

New kick panels were constructed to obtain the necessary depth for a pair of Boston Acoustics coaxils. B.A.’s compact neodymium magnets offered the perfect solution. The kick panels were clad in an automotive  carpet.

The upward and inward angle of the kick panels provided a great stereo image. It wasn’t necessary to relocate the emergency brake pedal because there was plenty of clearance.

In the trunk we built a custom subwoofer enclosure with an integral amplifier mounting rack. The combo amp rack/sub enclosure replaced the spare tire. The motorized top allowed little room otherwise. The sub enclosure featured a large radius to fit precisely into the space previously occupied by the spare. The four-channel amplifier drives the front kick panel coaxils stereo high-pass with two-channels bridged mono driving the JL Audio 10-inch subwoofer low-pass.

NOW WE’RE READY TO CRUISE.
