35th
anniversary flame edition Baja Outlaw 30 gets lit up. |
| |
|
AUDIO |

|
The factory Clarion marine CD player has all
the features and options covered. However, for this type of
system we need more preamp voltage. |
| |
|

|
In
the cabin we installed a Clarion equalizer. The primary benefit
of this EQ is we get six times 7-volt output versus four times
2-volt from the source unit. The difference in dynamic range,
contrast and clarity is substantial. Also, the EQ provides
3-way zone control (front cockpit, rear cockpit and subwoofer). |
| |
|
 |
A
Boston Acoustics fan-cooled 5-channel amplifier is partially
exposed from within a vinyl-clad birch shroud. A polished
and clearcoated aluminum flame grill follows the Baja 35th
anniversary theme. With little available storage the amplifier
had to be exposed. The shroud allows full air circulation
for the fan-cooled amplifier yet conceals all wiring and
cable penetrations.

|

|
| At the front of the cockpit,
factory places left and right speakers in a non-symmetrical
fashion. One speaker is high while the other is low. It’s
not good for sound and it scores zero on cosmetic appeal.
In using two pair of Polk MOMO separate component speakers
in a symmetrical arrangement, we first had to correct for
the forward angle of the interior mold on the port side.
A fiberglass pod angles the speakers outward so that the
port and starboard sides are perfectly balanced. The starboard
side needs only a bolster of similar shape but without
the angle correction. Polk MOMO tweeters and mid-bass drivers
are recessed into the vinyl-clad pod and bolster.

|
| |
|
 |
To cover one of the previous speaker locations
we installed matching vinyl-clad birch bolsters on both sides.
The raised flame pattern ties into the Baja 35th anniversary
flame theme. The bolsters are trimmed in black piping. |
| |
|

|
Rear facing Polk MOMO 6 ½ - inch integral
components in the cockpit combing pockets. Recessed and angled,
the rear Polk speakers are aimed directly at the rear bench
seat occupants. |
| |
|

|
| Two 10-inch flame vents allow
dual 10-inch subwoofers to radiate from within the rear
bench seat console. The aluminum grills are polished and
clearcoated. The black acrylic trim ring dresses the grill’s
exterior and a stainless steel mesh fills the interior.
Again, the flames are used to compliment the boat’s
existing 35th anniversary theme.

|
| |
|

|
Inside
the bench seat console a dual-chamber down-firing polyurethane
and waterproof enclosure contains two Polk MOMO 10-inch subwoofers.
Aluminum bracketry and polymer risers mount and elevate the
enclosure. |

|
LIGHTING |
 |
Baja
badges at the rear of the combing pockets are backlit. These
replace the factory courtesy lights. |
| |
|

|
| From under the speakers, LED
step lights at the front of the cockpit.
| |
|
| |
|

|
| Along the rear bench and around
the subwoofer grills are four step lights. At night the
entire soul perimeter is lit up by the six total step lights.
| |
|
| |
|

|
| The drink holders are well
lit in the upper combing pockets. Also, backlit are the
Baja badges.
| |
|
| |
|
 |
Lit up lower combing pockets. |
| |
|

|
| The engine compartment vents
received dual light strips per side creating a fiery effect
at night.
| |
|
| |
|
We have four different creative packages for the Baja 30
and 35. Each package (Flow, Flame, Swoop & Edge) has
distinctive billet grills and a corresponding amplifier cover.
The color combinations are endless.
