We equipped this Sundancer with a dual zone source system,
one source unit for the exterior and one source unit for the
interior. Shown here are the factory Clarion AM/FM/CD player
and 6-disc C-Bus changer. The factory source shown controls
the exterior zone. |
 |
Within an interior cabinet we installed a white laminated
panel to re-mount the existing Glomex and to mount four new
audio/video control components. A Clarion multimedia source
unit provides AM/FM/CD including MP3 play. The interior Clarions
fader controls the forward stateroom as front and the salon
as rear.
|
|
An Alpine XM satellite radio receiver and stand-alone controller
were added.
The video system audio output is channeled into the stereo
system.
Although the C-Bus changer is controlled via the external
Clarion source unit, the audio output is also directed into
the auxiliary input of the Clarion Ce-Net interior source
unit.
A Clarion multi-source selector was used to switch the CD
changer, XM radio or video sound into the interior source
auxiliary input.
The Alpine XM controller features an auxiliary input in order
to deliver the video source to the external source unit.
In summary, the interior and exterior systems can independently
and separately play AM band, FM band, single play CD, XM radio,
or video sound. The two systems can also sync up and play
simultaneously all of the above sources including the CD changer
for seamless sound from stateroom to salon to helm to aft
deck to the slip or a sandy beach.
A five-band equalizer was added to the exterior system to
provide individual zone control over a pair of rear-firing
arch speakers, two pair of helm/aft deck flushmount speakers
and twin subwoofers.

We added a 15-inch LCD to the forward stateroom by fabricating
a black laminated insert where the TV set opening was previously.
The factory opening and wood finish remains unaltered and
is completely reversible. We also added a game port, which
includes stereo RCA and video RCA, plus an AC receptacle for
easy plug in of a portable game, DVD, camera or computer.
The aft cabin supports the identical LCD in a 13-inch version
and a game port.
|
 |
On the galley side of the salon, a 20-inch LCD is mounted
to the hinged cabinet door and includes an infrared target for
the concealed electronics. An infrared repeater also works well
in the stateroom for full control over the video sources. |
 |
A combination DVD and VHS player is concealed behind the salon
LCD. The output is distributed to all screens. |
 |
Shown is the front left salon two-way Canton miniature enclosed
speaker. This tiny european speaker contains a 1/2 -inch aluminum
dome tweeter and a 3 1/2 -inch midrange in an aluminum enclosure.

Overhead front and center, the Boston Acoustics 6 1/2-inch
coaxial plays a mixed front signal for vocal imaging. |

Covered behind the salon couch cushions are four amplifiers.
A two-channel amplifier drives the two stateroom coaxials. A
five-channel amplifier drives the six salon speakers. Two four-channel
amplifiers combine to drive exterior arch and deck speakers
plus twin exterior subwoofers. |
